A case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 346 others, including the former officer-in-charge of Damra Police Station, for ordering an attack on peaceful protesters in the Dhaka-Aricha highway on August 5. The complaint was filed by Shariful Islam Sujan, who was shot during the attack. The lawsuit names several high-ranking officials and calls for an investigation into the violent crackdown.
Case Filed Against Sheikh Hasina and Former OC Over Shooting and Attacks on Protesters
The prosecution has received a draft investigation report on the August 5 Chankharpul shooting incident, where five individuals were killed. Chief Prosecutor Tazul Islam stated that the final report will be submitted to the tribunal after Eid.
Among the victims was tenth-grade student Anas, who left a letter to his parents before secretly joining the protest. In his note, he wrote, "If I don’t return alive, be proud. I apologize for every mistake I have made." His father, Palash, has filed charges against 25 individuals, including the Prime Minister. A police constable, Sujon, has already been arrested in connection with the case.
Investigation Report Submitted in Chankharpul Massacre Case
The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against 15 individuals in connection with the murder of Chattogram’s Wasim Akram, a student leader killed during the July uprising. The list includes former Chattogram mayors A.J.M. Nasir and Rezaul Karim, as well as former Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel. Wasim was shot dead by police in Chattogram on July 16, the same day Abu Saeed was killed in Rangpur.

The mother of martyred journalist Tahir Zaman Priyo, Shamsi Ara Zaman, has alleged that the accused in her son’s murder case are continuously threatening her with death. “As a citizen and the mother of a martyr, I do not want any elections before reforms. I do not believe another government will ensure justice for these killings. I am now worried about my family’s safety. They have told me, ‘Your son was killed; now it’s your turn,’” she said. She urged the interim government to ensure the security of all families affected by the July uprising.

Jahangirnagar University’s syndicate has declared July 15 as the university’s ‘Black Night,’ Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan announced after a syndicate meeting. The halls—Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, Sheikh Russel Hall, Sheikh Hasina Hall, and Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall—will be renamed, with a structural committee formed to oversee the process.

Jahangirnagar University has temporarily expelled nine teachers and 289 students for their involvement in attacks on students during recent mass protests. The university’s special syndicate meeting, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Kamrul Ahsan, made the decision at 3 AM on Monday. Additionally, a structured committee has been formed to review the actions of 10 other teachers. The university also decided to suspend the pensions of its former vice-chancellor and registrar, while two officials and one staff member have been temporarily dismissed.

‘Sada Dal,’ a nationalist teachers’ organization, has extended financial support to injured Dhaka University (DU) students from the July uprising. The assistance was provided during an Iftar gathering at the Faculty of Science Teachers’ Lounge on Monday.
Nine injured students and the families of two martyrs received financial aid. Among them were Fatema, the widow of martyr Kamal Mia, and Mosammat Hayatun Nesa, the mother of martyr Md. Saiful Islam.
Speaking at the event, Professor Dr. Morshed Hasan Khan, convener of ‘Sada Dal,’ stated, “We can never fully repay the debt of those who were killed or injured in the July revolution. Their sacrifices freed us from dictatorship, and we will always stand by them.”

Dhaka University has temporarily expelled 128 students for their involvement in attacks on protesters during the July Movement from July 15 to August 5. The decision was made in a syndicate meeting on March 17. An investigation committee, led by Professor Dr. Tajmeri S Islam, has been formed to determine further actions. The inquiry report also implicated several former students, recommending the cancellation of their academic certificates due to the severity of their offenses. The final decision will be based on the investigation’s findings.
