The Department of Narcotics Control seized 1,190 yaba pills, 22,500 taka in drug sale proceeds, and a private car during a raid in the Bangla area of Netrokona Sadar on Tuesday afternoon. The operation was conducted by the Mymensingh Divisional Intelligence Office under the leadership of Assistant Director Kawsarul Hasan Roni. Four individuals were detained at the scene and later sent to court.

The arrested persons were identified as Sakhawat Hossain Sajib, Saiful Islam alias Liyon, Al Rifat Chowdhury Joy, and Mahmudul Hasan Rafi, all residents of Netrokona Sadar. According to the Department of Narcotics Control, the raid targeted a suspicious car traveling toward the district town, which was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of the drugs and cash.

Following the seizure, Inspector Khondaker Iqbal Hossain filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act at Netrokona Model Police Station. The department confirmed that the four detainees were presented before the court after the case was registered.

Police in Naogaon have arrested four members of a fraud ring accused of mixing sleeping drugs inside coconuts to incapacitate victims and steal their belongings. The arrests were announced in a press release on Tuesday afternoon after an 18-hour operation across Bogura and Gaibandha districts. Authorities seized a stolen autorickshaw, a motorcycle, eight mobile phones, cash, and sleeping drugs from the suspects.

According to the police statement, the group lured an autorickshaw driver on July 10 by pretending to visit a hospital and offering him a coconut drink laced with sedatives. After the driver lost consciousness, they fled with his vehicle. Using CCTV footage, criminal databases, artificial intelligence, and digital tools, investigators identified and captured the suspects. The arrested individuals are from Cumilla, Barguna, Bogura, and Gaibandha districts.

Police said two of the suspects have prior criminal cases, including murder, while the other two were involved in reselling stolen goods. Legal action is being taken against all four detainees.

A fire broke out at an unauthorized mini petrol pump in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore on Tuesday afternoon, destroying the pump along with three nearby shops and two residential houses. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. at Godown Mor in Nazirpur Bazar. Two fire service units from Gurudaspur and Natore brought the blaze under control after about two hours of effort. No major injuries or casualties were reported.

According to fire service and local sources, the fire started while workers were repairing the fuel tank of Messrs Nuru Enterprise, which had been operating without fire service approval for several years in a densely populated area. The flames quickly spread to adjacent shops and homes, causing extensive damage estimated at around 3 million taka. The pump owner, Nurul Islam, and his son were not found at the scene.

Local residents and victims demanded justice and compensation, blaming the unapproved petrol pump for their losses. Fire officials said the exact cause and total damage would be confirmed after investigation.

A Gopalganj court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his father in 2023. The verdict was delivered on Tuesday afternoon by District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Shamsul Haque. In addition to life imprisonment, the convict was fined 20,000 taka, with an additional six months in jail in case of non-payment.

According to the case details, on May 13, 2023, in the Char Manikdah Kazi’s Bazar area of Gopalganj Sadar upazila, drug addict Alim Kazi attacked his father, Ismail Kazi, with a machete after being told to stop using abusive language. Ismail Kazi was taken to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The victim’s other son, Selim Kazi, later filed a murder case.

Following police investigation and witness testimony, the court handed down the sentence in the presence of the accused. Advocate M. M. Julkadar represented the prosecution, while Advocate Abu Taleb Sheikh defended the accused.

A sand trader named Sakhawat Hossain was allegedly abducted and assaulted by BNP leader Mohiuddin Chishtia in Narsingdi’s Palash upazila on Monday evening. The incident occurred in front of Bangladesh Jute Mill in Ghorashal, where Sakhawat was reportedly taken to Mohiuddin’s house, beaten, and had one of his ears bitten, requiring four stitches. The victim, a resident of Kaliganj in Gazipur, is currently receiving treatment at Palash Upazila Health Complex.

According to Sakhawat, he was attacked while returning from paying wages to dredger workers involved in a sand-filling project for a construction site of TK Group inside the jute mill. He claimed that Mohiuddin and several others detained him for about an hour, assaulted him, and threatened him to remove his dredger from the area. Mohiuddin declined to comment in detail, citing his involvement in another program.

Police confirmed visiting the hospital and speaking with the victim. The officer-in-charge of Palash Police Station said legal action would follow upon receiving a written complaint.

A special operation conducted by the Thakurgaon Battalion (50 BGB) led to the seizure of a 7-kilogram touchstone and the arrest of two individuals in Panchagarh’s Atwari upazila. The joint patrol team from the battalion headquarters and the Barshalupara BOP carried out the operation around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14, near the Radha Krishna Bazar area, about 400 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 396/5-R. The total seizure value, including the touchstone and other items, was estimated at Tk 887,400. The operation was led by Lieutenant Colonel Kh. Akhlakur Rahman, G, Artillery, commander of the Thakurgaon Battalion.

According to BGB, the operation was part of its zero-tolerance policy against smuggling, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal border crossings. The commander urged local residents to remain vigilant and cooperate in maintaining border security and social order.

Arifullah Jelin, a 26-year-old assistant security officer at Sylhet Osmani International Airport under the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, has been missing since the evening of July 8, 2026. He was last seen leaving his residential quarters near the airport, and his phone has remained switched off since then. A general diary was filed on July 9 by a colleague at the Sylhet Airport Police Station, with Sub-Inspector Arjun Chowdhury assigned to investigate.

Police confirmed that Jelin did not return to work after his leave and that his last known location was near the airport area. Twenty-seven forest bandits, led by Jahangir Sheikh of the 'Chhoto Jahangir Bahini', have surrendered to the Bangladesh Coast Guard along with a large cache of weapons and ammunition. The formal surrender took place around 5 p.m. on Monday near Charputia Canal in the Sundarbans under Mongla Police Station, Bagerhat. The information was confirmed in a press release signed by Coast Guard Headquarters media officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon.

According to the statement, the surrender followed two special Coast Guard operations—‘Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans’ and ‘Operation Mangrove Shield’—aimed at ensuring overall security and eliminating forest banditry. A passenger was killed and at least ten others were injured when two buses collided on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Cumilla’s Sadar Dakshin upazila on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the Suagazi area, in front of Rahat Filling Station, on the Chattogram-bound lane.

Police said a Madina Paribahan bus traveling from Feni to Cumilla hit a CDM Paribahan bus from Chattogram to Dhaka from behind, causing severe damage to both vehicles. The deceased was identified as Imran Gazi, 28, a passenger of the CDM Paribahan bus and a resident of Chandpur Sadar upazila. The injured passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

According to Moinamoti Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Momin, both damaged buses have been seized, and the victim’s body was taken to the police station. Legal procedures related to the incident are underway.

A man named Chayedul Islam, aged 40, was arrested by RAB-1 within 24 hours for allegedly killing his wife Nasima Akter, a garment worker, in Gazipur’s Sreepur area. The arrest was announced at a press conference held at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar on July 14, 2026. According to RAB, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on July 13, when Chayedul, reportedly a drug addict, stabbed his wife to death after she refused to give him money for drugs.

RAB stated that Nasima, 27, was the daughter of Abdul Mannan from Netrokona’s Purbadhala area, while Chayedul hailed from Mymensingh’s Tarakanda. The couple lived in a rented home in Sreepur with their two children. Nasima had recently received her salary from a local garment factory, and when she refused to give her husband 3,000 taka, an argument broke out that led to the fatal attack.

RAB confirmed that the arrested suspect has been handed over to Sreepur Police Station for further legal action.

A student leader was arrested with 25 yaba tablets in Mirzaganj under Patuakhali district during a late-night operation by the Department of Narcotics Control. The arrest took place in Dakshin Gabua village of Kakrabunia Union, where officers detained 30-year-old Md. Abul Bashar, a candidate for the presidency of the local Chhatra Dal unit and son of Md. Abdur Rahim.

According to the Department of Narcotics Control, Bashar had been involved in drug trading for a long time, allegedly evading law enforcement. Acting on a tip-off, officials raided his house and recovered the yaba tablets from his possession. He was later handed over to Mirzaganj police.

The officer-in-charge of Mirzaganj Police Station confirmed that a regular case was filed against Bashar under the Narcotics Control Act, and he was sent to Patuakhali jail through the court on Tuesday.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 377 individuals in the capital during a 24-hour regular operation, according to a report published on July 14, 2026. The arrests were made across various police divisions, and 41 cases were filed in connection with the drives. The operation also led to the recovery of illegal drugs and other items.

Among those detained, 40 were arrested in Ramna Division, 26 in Lalbagh, 55 in Wari, 25 in Motijheel, 64 in Tejgaon, 85 in Mirpur, 32 in Gulshan, 43 in Uttara, and 7 by the Detective Branch. The police seized 3,030 yaba pills, 55 kilograms and 230 grams of cannabis, 1,200 bottles of phensedyl, one private car, two microbuses, a lock-cutting machine, six mobile phones, and 330 taka in cash. One victim was also rescued during the operation.

A man named Md. Ashik, 23, was arrested with a firearm in connection with the shooting of his 70-year-old grandfather, Nazrul Islam, in Chandraganj, Lakshmipur. The incident occurred on July 4 during a family arbitration meeting that escalated into an argument. RAB-11 confirmed the arrest and recovery of the weapon, stating that Ashik was detained in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area on Monday night and later taken to his village home, where the firearm was found.

According to case and local sources, Ashik’s parents, Faruk and Ayesha Begum, had ongoing family disputes. During a meeting on July 3 to resolve the issue, Ayesha became angry after a heated exchange with Nazrul and informed her son Ashik over the phone. Ashik returned home and allegedly shot Nazrul the next day, injuring his left wrist. Nazrul later filed a case with Chandraganj Police Station on July 6.

RAB officials said Ashik had been on the run since the incident. After his arrest, he was handed over to Chandraganj police for further legal action.

A Jessore court has acquitted four families accused in a so-called 'militant' case nine years after it was filed. The verdict came following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in July 2024. The victims—Tanzir Ahmed, Md. Mohiuddin, Mehedi Hasan Pasha, and Saddam Yasir Sajal—were declared innocent after years of imprisonment, harassment, and social stigma. They alleged that former Jessore Superintendent of Police and later Rajshahi DIG Md. Anisur Rahman orchestrated the fabricated cases and was also linked to the extrajudicial killing of BNP activist Abu Sayeed.

According to the report, Abu Sayeed’s wife filed a murder case against Anis in August 2024, which is under investigation. Police sources confirmed that Anis was suspended in July 2025 for being absent from duty. The accused officer served as Jessore SP from March 2014 to August 2018 and became Rajshahi DIG in July 2023. He has been untraceable since Hasina’s resignation and has not commented on the allegations.

The acquittal marks the end of a prolonged ordeal for the families, who faced torture, wrongful detention, and loss of livelihood under the previous administration.
