Authorities in Mohanganj, Netrokona, conducted a raid on Monday afternoon at the residence of Rocky Molla in Khalifa Patti, also known as Jal Patti, and seized illegal Chinese fishing nets valued at approximately 2 million taka. The operation was led by Upazila Nirbahi Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) M A Kader, who conducted a mobile court during the raid. As Rocky Molla was not present, his mother, Asma Akter, was fined 5,000 taka by the mobile court.

Senior Fisheries Officer Anik Rahman was also present during the operation. Following the seizure, the confiscated illegal nets were burned on the premises of the upazila compound. According to Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Islam, Faruk was returning home to Mirpur on his motorcycle when a bus of Hanif Paribahan ran him over. He died on the spot. Police later recovered the body, but the bus involved in the accident could not be seized.

A municipal female worker named Bhola Rani Das died from electrocution in Madhupur, Tangail, on Monday morning. Police in Jamalpur have arrested former Jamaat leader Professor Harunur Rashid in connection with a cheque fraud case. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon, after which he was taken to Melandah Police Station. Rashid, aged 65, is from Fulchenna village in Melandah municipality and currently serves as a professor at Hazarabari Sirajul Haque Degree College and director of Jamalpur Evergreen Hospital.

According to Melandah Police Station Officer-in-Charge Obaidur Rahman, Rashid had been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison in a cheque fraud case filed by a man named Ershad involving 7.6 million taka. He was listed as a fugitive with an active arrest warrant. District Jamaat’s media affairs secretary Zakiul Islam stated that Rashid had been expelled from the party about four years ago following allegations of financial misconduct and other irregularities.

Police have sent Rashid to the Jamalpur court on Monday for further legal proceedings.

Police arrested two drug dealers with heroin at a checkpoint on the Niamatpur-Dhansura road in Naogaon on Monday morning. The detainees were identified as Mejboul Haque Bachchu, 38, from Baluachari village, and Asaduzzaman Nayon, 26, from Tola village, both of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. Officers stopped their motorcycle for inspection and found 200 grams of heroin in two packets. The motorcycle used for transporting the drugs was seized.

A Jamaat-e-Islami activist was shot in front of his home in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in Ayubpur village under Amanullahpur Union. The victim, 24-year-old Mainul Islam alias Mahin, was talking with friends when four to five masked assailants arrived in two CNG-run autorickshaws and opened fire, hitting him in the right knee. Police in Sunamganj arrested three individuals during an attempted robbery at Lalpur Bridge in Gaurarang Union on Monday morning. An elderly man was killed in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj late Sunday night, reportedly due to previous enmity. Police in Feni recovered the body of a child from a pond in Amanullahpur area of Daganbhuiyan municipality on Monday morning, two days after the child went missing and a ransom was demanded. The deceased, Hasan, was the son of Md. Tarek and Tarjina Akter Nipu from Kamalnagar in Lakshmipur district.

According to Hasan’s father, the child disappeared from in front of their house on Saturday morning. Later that evening, a call came from the number 01927035603 demanding Tk 12,000 initially and later Tk 120,000 as ransom, with threats to kill the child if the demand was not met. A written complaint was filed at Daganbhuiyan Police Station the following day.

Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Faizul Azim said police recovered the body after receiving information on Monday morning. He added that the ransom call appeared to be the work of a fraud group and that the threatening phone number was traced to Naogaon. Investigation is ongoing.

A fire broke out on the sixth floor of SQ Group’s garment factory building at Masterbari in Habirbari area of Valuka upazila, Mymensingh, on Sunday night. Two units of the Fire Service responded to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control after about one and a half hours of effort.

Police in Kaliakair, Gazipur have filed a case against 200 unidentified individuals following the killing of three men suspected of cattle theft. A speeding passenger bus lost control and crashed into a shop at Valaiyapur Bazar in Chuadanga on Sunday, May 10, injuring at least two people. Four members of a family were burned in a suspected gas leakage explosion in Fatullah’s Lakibazar area of Narayanganj on Monday morning.
