Three members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were injured after being detained and assaulted for about four hours by a group led by a man named Shafik in Khagatuya village under Ratanpur Union of Nabinagar upazila, Brahmanbaria. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, May 11, 2026, when the RAB team was passing through the area for intelligence gathering. A video of the attack later went viral on social media, showing the injured officers and the attackers issuing threats.
According to RAB-9 CPC-1 company commander Md. Nur Nabi, the team was attacked with local weapons, leaving two members with broken arms and another with a head injury. One officer managed to escape, while three others were held and beaten before being rescued by additional RAB and police forces. The injured were first treated at Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.
Local residents alleged that Shafik has long been involved in criminal activities and intimidation in the area, facing 28 cases including murder, theft, and assault. Police said no written complaint had been filed as of the report’s publication.

Police in Kapasia, Gazipur recovered the body of a 14-year-old schoolboy named Nurul Islam Nahid from the Shitalakkhya River on Monday afternoon, two days after he went missing. The body was found floating near the Balda Ghat area of the upazila headquarters. Nahid, a seventh-grade student and son of Abdus Salam from Barokakiya village, had been missing since Saturday morning after leaving home.
According to family sources, Nahid went out around 11 a.m. on Saturday and did not return. Relatives later learned that he had gone to bathe in the river and failed to come back. His clothes and a pair of shoes were found on the riverbank. The Fire Service and Civil Defence divers conducted a prolonged search but could not locate him earlier.
Kapasia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Shahinur Alam confirmed that the recovered body was identified by the family as Nahid’s. An unnatural death case has been filed with the police station.

According to the report, Rozina Akter had been storing petrol at her home near the Paresh Chandra Saha Filling Station in the Tinani Para area and selling it at inflated rates. During the operation, the allegations were found to be true, prompting the immediate establishment of a mobile court that imposed the fine.
In addition to the monetary penalty, the court ruled that failure to pay the fine would result in 15 days of simple imprisonment.
Woman fined in Bakshiganj for hoarding and overpricing petrol
A police team came under attack while attempting to arrest suspected robbers in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area on Monday morning. The incident occurred when officers from Dhanmondi Police Station conducted a raid to capture suspects linked to a recent mugging. Both the injured officer and the suspect are receiving treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital and are reported to be out of danger.

Feni court jails student leader over assault on teacher’s family amid land dispute

According to Bahubal Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Saiful Islam, Faruk was returning home to Mirpur on his motorcycle when a bus of Hanif Paribahan ran him over. He died on the spot. Police later recovered the body, but the bus involved in the accident could not be seized.

A municipal female worker named Bhola Rani Das died from electrocution in Madhupur, Tangail, on Monday morning. According to Madhupur Municipality Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Jubayer Hossain, she died on the spot after being electrocuted. Madhupur Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M. Fazlul Haque confirmed that an unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.

Municipal worker dies from electrocution while picking fruit in Madhupur, Tangail
Police in Jamalpur have arrested former Jamaat leader Professor Harunur Rashid in connection with a cheque fraud case. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon, after which he was taken to Melandah Police Station. Rashid, aged 65, is from Fulchenna village in Melandah municipality and currently serves as a professor at Hazarabari Sirajul Haque Degree College and director of Jamalpur Evergreen Hospital.
According to Melandah Police Station Officer-in-Charge Obaidur Rahman, Rashid had been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison in a cheque fraud case filed by a man named Ershad involving 7.6 million taka. He was listed as a fugitive with an active arrest warrant. District Jamaat’s media affairs secretary Zakiul Islam stated that Rashid had been expelled from the party about four years ago following allegations of financial misconduct and other irregularities.
Police have sent Rashid to the Jamalpur court on Monday for further legal proceedings.
Former Jamaat leader arrested in Jamalpur over 7.6 million taka cheque fraud case
Police arrested two drug dealers with heroin at a checkpoint on the Niamatpur-Dhansura road in Naogaon on Monday morning. The detainees were identified as Mejboul Haque Bachchu, 38, from Baluachari village, and Asaduzzaman Nayon, 26, from Tola village, both of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. Officers stopped their motorcycle for inspection and found 200 grams of heroin in two packets. The motorcycle used for transporting the drugs was seized.
According to police, the suspects admitted during preliminary questioning that they had brought the heroin from Chapainawabganj to Niamatpur for sale. Niamatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahbubur Rahman said that a case under the Narcotics Control Act is being processed. He added that such anti-drug operations will continue and the detainees will be presented before the court.

Police arrest two with 200 grams of heroin at Niamatpur checkpoint in Naogaon
A Jamaat-e-Islami activist was shot in front of his home in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. in Ayubpur village under Amanullahpur Union. The victim, 24-year-old Mainul Islam alias Mahin, was talking with friends when four to five masked assailants arrived in two CNG-run autorickshaws and opened fire, hitting him in the right knee. Locals rescued him and took him to Noakhali General Hospital, and he was later transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
Local Jamaat leaders alleged that the attack might have been politically motivated and demanded immediate arrest of those responsible. They also claimed that there were attempts to destabilize the western part of Begumganj. Officers recovered an empty cartridge from the scene and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the attackers.

Locals and traffic sergeant Monirul Islam intervened to protect him, after which police led by Sub-Inspectors Ashraf and Zahir arrested the suspects and took them to the station. They were later sent to court.
The police operation prevented the robbery and led to the capture of a suspect with a long criminal record, according to the report.
