Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has completed one month in detention in Dubai, following his arrest by the city’s police on June 12. The Dubai Police’s Interpol branch informed Bangladesh Police of the arrest through an official letter, and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed confirmed the matter in parliament two days later. A mobile court in Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi sentenced three drug dealers to imprisonment on Sunday evening. A mobile court in Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali sentenced a local broker to one month of simple imprisonment for harassing people at the land office. Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) opened fire at suspected Indian smugglers inside the Satkhira border early Sunday.
