An allegation has surfaced that the father of a local BNP leader has illegally occupied land belonging to C.N.B. Degree College in Niamati Union of Bakerganj upazila, Barishal, and started constructing tin-shed shops there. The incident has sparked anger and concern among residents. According to reports, on Thursday, a group led by Adud Farazi, father of Niamati Union BNP president Sohel Farazi, forcibly took possession of part of the college’s property and began building structures within the boundary of the old college building.

College founder Jobed Ali Khan stated that constructing private establishments on land officially recorded under the institution’s name is completely illegal and lamented the encroachment on educational property for commercial use. He alleged that Adud Farazi, along with Ashok Nandi and Swapan Nandi, occupied the land and erected tin-shed shops, demanding swift administrative action. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) office in Rangpur has filed a case against former Rangpur City Corporation mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, three contractors, and four Meghna Bank officials for allegedly embezzling Tk 42.67 million. According to the case details, the accused allegedly colluded to fraudulently misappropriate Tk 42,675,503.33 from Meghna Bank’s Rangpur branch. The accused include contractors Abdur Rakib, ATM Fuad Hossain, and Rafiqul Islam Dulal, as well as former bank officials Mahfuzul Islam, AKM Shafiqul Momtaz, Atikur Rahman, and Manjur Hossain Patowary. A Dhaka court has postponed the submission date for the reinvestigation report in the murder case of Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inquilab Moncho, to March 11. A 15-year-old girl named Amena Akter was reportedly abducted and killed in front of her father in Narsingdi’s Madhabdi area on Wednesday night. An extortion case has been filed in Chattogram against Harualchhari Union Chairman Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury and his associates for allegedly demanding Tk 5 million from a brick kiln owner and assaulting him. Police recovered the hanging body of a university student from a house in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area early Wednesday night. The deceased was identified as Mahamuda Akter Jerin, 27, a student of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB). Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf at a rented flat on Road 2, Block C of the area around 12:45 a.m.

At least 20 people, including police officers, were killed in militant attacks across Pakistan’s northwestern region over the past two days, according to a police official on Thursday.
